Experience "More" in your Life
Nov 20, 2025By Dr. Jon Russell
Royce Gracie, a UFC Hall of Famer and pioneer of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, is celebrated not just for his victories but for the courage he demonstrated in challenging the norms of combat sports. For Gracie, a black belt wasn't a symbol to hide behind- it was a reminder of the work still left to do. He understood that past achievements can't carry you forward unless you're willing to use them as a foundation for even greater effort.
Relying on past accomplishments can create a false sense of security, but courage demands more. It requires using your victories as continual pathways of progress while continuing to push into uncharted territory. True strength lies in the willingness to keep moving forward, to take risks, and to prove yourself over and over again.
Simply put- have the courage to build upon your achievements rather than rest on them. Look at your past accomplishments not as destinations but as launchpads. Use them to fuel your next season.
Here are a few ways to experience "more" in your life:
1- Dare to believe for more
You were not born to be average or ordinary. You were born to do something great with your life. That greatness does not stop with one or several great accomplishments. Great leaders see beyond previous successes. Daring to believe for more isn't just a catch phrase- it's necessary.
2- Continue to surround yourself with vision-driven people
The right community stretches you. Surround yourself with people who challenge mediocrity. Those who will call out greatness in you. Find those who are ahead of you in life. Those who are "doing" what you are "dreaming."
3- Pursue purpose over comfort
Purpose never ends. In fact, after your death, your purpose should leave such an impact it continues on through others. There is a temptation to settle after success or as you age. Refuse that mindset. Of course, take time to rest and recharge, but stay on course with your purpose. There are no high watermarks for great leaders. A purpose-driven leader embraces new challenges after accomplishments. They embrace change instead of ease.
4- Keep curious and keep learning
Leaders who experience more never assume they've arrived. They remain curious. Curiosity fuels creativity. They are eager to grow. They read widely, ask great questions and seek out life coaches. Always invest in yourself.
May your past achievements inspire action, not complacency and embrace the journey of constant growth!
