The DRC Coaching Model

A one-page guide to the five-stage session — the framework our ICF-accredited students use to move a conversation from awareness to action.

Most new coaches do not fail because they lack passion. They fail because they lack structure. Sessions drift, and clients leave encouraged but without clarity.

Goodwill is not coaching.

You are not waiting because you are not ready.
You are waiting because you do not have a structure yet.

Five stages. Thirty minutes. That is the whole framework.

01  Assess 5 min

Establish a clear picture of their current reality. You cannot coach someone toward a destination without first understanding the terrain they are standing in.

02  Articulate 5 min

Define the desired outcome with precision. A vague outcome produces a vague conversation. Specificity here determines everything that follows.

03  Awareness 10 min

The core of the conversation. Surface the patterns, beliefs and blind spots in the way. Awareness does not come from being told — it comes from being asked.

04  Align 5 min

Connect the goal to their deeper values. Motivation without alignment is fragile. Congruent action makes follow-through natural rather than forced.

05  Advance 5 min

Close with a clear, specific, time-bound action step. Insight that does not produce action is simply an interesting conversation.
