Don’t Panic—Pivot: What It Takes to Turn in Turbulent Times
May 07, 2026By Dr. Gwendolyn Henry
If you’ve felt stretched, uncertain, or pressured lately, you’re not alone. Between the rise of AI, economic uncertainty, and constant changes in how we work and live, many people feel as if the ground beneath them is shifting.
Yet even in the tension, there’s a truth we can’t ignore: pressure doesn’t only reveal what’s fragile, it reveals what’s possible.
And in moments where everything tightens at once, the invitation is straightforward:
Don’t panic, pivot.
Pivoting is more than a buzzword. It’s a mindset, a strategy, a spiritual and practical discipline. The dictionary defines a pivot as “a turning point,” and in the professional world, that’s exactly what it becomes.
It is the intentional adjustment that keeps you grounded while everything else shifts.
The Power of Pivoting: A Story We Already Know
Jesus modeled the greatest pivot the world has ever seen. The cross was the ultimate crisis—painful, public, and unjust, yet He didn’t panic in the face of pressure. Instead, He pivoted.
He ministered to a repentant thief beside Him.
He honored His mother.
He stayed aligned with purpose even while carrying unbearable weight.
Jesus showed us that pivoting is responding with purpose when circumstances demand reaction.
Pivoting is not weakness. Pivoting is strength.
Today, more than ever, we must master the art of the pivot. So,let’s break down three key areas where every leader, employee, entrepreneur, or dreamer must learn to pivot, especially in seasons of uncertainty.
Perspective
A pivot in perspective is the choice to examine how you’re reading what’s happening around you. It’s not about forcing optimism; it’s about refusing to draw conclusions too quickly. When life shifts, perspective helps you step back, assess accurately, and interpret the moment without magnifying the fear attached to it.
Pursuit
What you pursue in uncertain seasons reveals what you trust. A pivot here means evaluating what has been driving you—pressure, expectation, survival, or purpose—and choosing to re-align your efforts with what produces forward movement rather than frantic motion.
Priority
Pressure has a way of exposing what’s been taking the most space in your life. A pivot in priority is a sober look at what needs your attention now, what can wait, and what no longer fits where you are going. It’s not about doing more; it’s about letting your actions reflect your assignment.
What Does This Mean for You—Right Now?
AI is changing industries. Budgets are tightening. Workplaces are restructuring. Dreams are being reimagined. Career paths are not as linear as they once were.
People aren’t failing, they’re facing unfamiliar terrain.
But those who thrive in shifting times are the ones who pivot with intentionality, wisdom, and maturity.
This is where coaching plays a vital role.
Coaching helps people uncover what’s holding them back, clarify what’s possible, and make the kind of pivot that aligns their decisions with their destiny.
And in times like these, coaching isn’t optional, it’s essential.
The Shift Only You Can Make
You don’t control the crisis, but you do control the pivot.
People rise through crisis not because they know everything, but because they learn to shift at the right moment. Your greatest growth, your next opportunity, your fresh strategy—it’s all on the other side of a pivot.
So, if this season feels uncertain or uncomfortable, don’t let panic take the lead.
Pivot.
And watch how God meets you in the turn.
