Coaching that Builds: Why Encouragement is a Leader’s Superpower

Leadership can be seen as influence, authority, and a responsibility. The core of true leadership is more. It’s a calling — it is a blessed opportunity to build up others, and help them become who they were created to be. True  leadership is ministry, encouragement, and coaching. Who would have thought!

When we lead others, we step into ministry of serving.  Leadership that does not serve isn't leadership. Whether you're leading a team at work, your family at home, or a group in your community or church, your role is to serve with purpose. Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, healed the broken, and always led with compassion. His services remind us that our leadership must reflect humility, love, and a commitment to the growth and well-being of others.

To lead is to minister. In order to see people’s value, speak to their potential, and walk with them through both the mountain and valley. Leadership isn’t about control but it is about connection.

Encouragement is a lifeline. People walk through life with the weight of criticism, fear, and or failure. True Leaders that encourage are like light in the darkness, giving others hope and affirmation that speak life to others. We just never know what our words can do. Words are powerful.

As a true leader we do not ignore challenges, but we help others see beyond what they cannot see pass. Leadership reminds of what’s possible, affirms strengths, and offers grace when growth is needed. When a leader chooses to encourage, they’re building trust and resilience — two essentials for any thriving environment.

As Hebrews 10:24-25 says,

24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,

25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Coaching isn’t about giving all the answers — it’s about asking the right questions. Leaders who coach others, empowers them to discover their own solutions, take ownership of their growth, and move forward with confidence.

Coaching-oriented leadership is intentional. It involves listening deeply, offering constructive feedback, and helping others set meaningful goals. Coaching creates a safe space where people feel seen, heard, and supported.

More than managing tasks, coaching is about developing people. It’s investing time and energy into others, not just for what they can produce, but for who they are becoming,

Our leadership should reflect ministry,we are the feet of Jesus. As we encourage, our coaching is transformational. It develops trust, fosters growth, and reflects the heart of Christ. It’s not always easy — but it’s worth it.

Whether you're in a formal leadership role or simply influencing those around you, remember: your leadership is a ministry. Use it to encourage, to coach, and to bring out the God-given potential in others.

You’re not just leading people — you’re changing lives.
